You are wrong
The best way to get better.
We are surrounded by free feedback
Last week, Ruchi and I pointed to Vidur (our 15yr old) that his toe nails had become quite long and needed to be cut.
His first reaction was “have you looked at your nails?”, pointing to Ruchi’s long toe nails.
And this simple exchange of 2 sentences teaches you so much about life.
The fact is that we are constantly surrounded by free feedback.
But we call it free feedback.
We use harsher titles to describe it.
We call it criticism.
We call it finger pointing.
We call it ‘being accused’.
We call it “being told I am wrong”.
None of these titles help.
Because they make you feel like a victim.
Someone who is a helpless soul, being tortured for no reason.
Instead, if you looked at it as ‘free feedback’, then the right response in your head would be:
”Someone is giving me free feedback. I wonder if he/she is right. Let me think about it.”
And then you give it some thought.
You may conclude they are not right - in which case you reject the feedback and move on with your life.
Or you may conclude that the feedback is indeed right - in which case you fix it.
And become a better version of yourself!
Think about this.
People are giving you FREE ways to become better.
And yet, our ego tells us - that we should shout back at them, reject them, get angry at them or ignore them.
The only thing coming in your way to become better, is your ego.
Book I am reading
Finished reading Best Loser Wins: Why Normal Thinking Never Wins the Trading Game by Tom Hougaard.
A very different book from what I usually read. This one was about trading and how the thinking of a trader has such a significant impact on the outcome of the trader.
Quite enjoyable.
Here is a list of all books I have shared in this newsletter.
3-2-1
3 pics from last week
Went for a heritage walk this Sunday. Nestled in the busy RK Puram complex of Delhi was this nearly 800 year old complex - full of stories and mysteries.
Called the Wazirpur Tomb (though no one knows whose tomb it is)
2 quotes I wish to share
Parents spent their life surviving.
So that we could spend our life buying.
The world will rarely award you.
It will award the title.
It is up to what will you chase.
The title.
Or you?
1 new thing I learnt this week
In 1946, K.M. Mammen Mappillai began making toy balloons in a small shed in Madras.
Madras Rubber Factory.
MRF!
From balloons, he moved to tread rubber. Then tyres.
MRF Tyres.
Today it is one of the most expensive stocks in the Indian stock market.
Quiz of the week
Last week I asked: Which planet is closest to Earth on average?
The right answer is not Venus or Mars - it is actually Mercury (it is on an average closer to Earth than Venue). Here is a visualization for this.
Only about 200 people got it right.
The lucky winner last week is Bhavika (conta****02@gmail.com)
Question of the week (don’t Google or ask AI!):
What is the national animal of Scotland?
Reply with your answer, and I will pick one random winner with the right answer.
They will get a signed copy of a book of mine :))

The title of this essay was just a ragebait. Anyways I hope I actually remember this essay, the next time someone gives me free feedback.
It was really a beautiful thinking 🤔 that change our perspective.
